Jaya Prada Politics

On the eve of the assembly elections in 1994 Jayaprada joined the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) at N. T. Rama Rao's invitation and quickly progressed through the ranks. She was reportedly considering running for office at the time but she decided against it even though Rao offered her a seat. In 1996 she was selected to represent Andhra Pradesh in the Rajya Sabha. Additionally she served as the Telugu Mahila President. She left the TDP to join the Samajwadi Party after having disagreements with the party's supremo N. Chandrababu Naidu. During the 2004 General Election she ran from the Rampur parliamentary constituency in Uttar Pradesh and won by a margin of more than 85000 votes.

Later on March 10 2014 she and Amar Singh joined the RLD and soon after she was given the ticket to run for the Bijnor seat in the general elections of 2014. But she came up short in the vote. On March 26 2019 she formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in the presence of Bhupender Yadav the national general secretary.

Jaya Prada Controversy

Jaya Prada stated on Friday that Amar Singh was her godfather but added that even if she tied him a rakhi people would still speak about them. Azam Khan a top Samajwadi Party (SP) leader and Rampur MLA was the target of other serious accusations made by the woman including that he attempted an acid assault on her. After being kicked out of the SP the former Lok Sabha representative from Rampur Uttar Pradesh founded the Rashtriya Lok Manch alongside Singh. She stated So many people have helped me in my life and Amar Singh ji is my godfather in response to the negativity surrounding her relationship with Amar Singh.

Jaya Prada stated I couldn't even tell my mother if I would return back alive whenever I departed from home because of the state I was in running elections with Azam Khan as a woman with threats to my life. Amar Singh was receiving dialysis and people in the area started sharing my modified images. I sobbed and said I don't want to live any longer; I want to end my life. Nobody helped me as I was going through that experience she claimed. Only Amar Singh ji who had just finished his dialysis stood by me and gave me comfort. What will you consider him to be? Godfather or another person?
