Jason Roy's Career

Jason Roy: Domestic Career

On June 27 2008 Jason Roy made his Twenty20 Cup debut for Surrey against the Middlesex Cricket Team. A week later on July 20 2008 the day before his 18th birthday he made his List A debut against Yorkshire in the Natwest Pro40 League.

He dropped out of the first team due to some inconsistent play and it wasn't until 2010 that he made a comeback. He immediately hit 101 off 57 balls against Kent in Beckenham becoming Surrey's first T20 century. Later that summer he made his Championship debut against Leicestershire and scored an unbeaten 76 off 65 balls.

However Roy's ascent to the top was spurred by the 2014 campaign. The highest total in the 2014 NatWest T20 Blast was achieved by Roy who scored 677 runs at an average of 48.35.

Jason Roy: IPL Career

In 2017 and 2018 respectively Jason Roy played for Gujarat Lions and Delhi Daredevils in the Indian Premier League. However the following year due to World Cup preparations Jason Roy decided to withdraw from the competition.

Roy was purchased by the Capitals (formerly the Daredevils) in 2018 for Rs 1.5 crores but was released for the 2019 campaign. Roy participated in five games for the Capitals tallying 120 runs at a strike rate of 127.65; 91 of those runs came in his first two innings of the tournament while only 29 came in his subsequent four.

He was repurchased by the Delhi Capitals for the same price in the most recent auctions. Roy however chose to withdraw from the current campaign due to personal circumstances and Daniel Sams will take his place in the competition.

Jason Roy: International Career

Jason Roy: Test career

Roy's white ball skill is no longer a secret but his red ball approach has frequently come under scrutiny. To prepare for the 2019 Ashes the England selection committee put their support behind Roy who made his Test debut against Ireland.

He only managed an average of 13.75 in the four Ashes Tests with a top score of 31. His confidence seems to have been damaged by the time he was dropped to No. 4 and dropped before the last Test at the Oval.

Jason Roy: ODI career

Jason Roy was brought into the scene because the English team required some immediate remedies following their humiliating elimination from the 2015 World Cup. A right-handed batsman who could get the team off to a quick start while still playing cricket in the manner of the early 2000s.

On May 8 2015 Roy faced Ireland for the first time. The five-match series against New Zealand in June 2015 saw him chosen once more to play for England. The series continued to be a failure for the dasher but he had already shown hints of what he was capable of. The best successful run chase in ODIs without losing a wicket was led by Roy and Alex Hales' opening partnership of 256 against Sri Lanka in 2016.

Jason Roy was the main factor that turned England's fortunes around from being on the verge of losing the 2019 CWC at home to ultimately winning the event. The Surrey cricketer had a strong tournament debut scoring 50 and 50 against South Africa and Bangladesh respectively before suffering a hamstring injury that forced him to miss the next two matches.

England dropped those games and a World Cup elimination a la 2015 seemed almost inevitable.
After being rushed back into the team despite showing little sign of recovery Roy responded with three typically dominant half-centuries (innings of 66 60 and 85) and three-century partnerships with the equally prolific Jonny Bairstow in matches that were essentially knock-out matches against India New Zealand and Australia.

Jason Roy: T20I Career

In September 2014 Jason Roy received his first call-up to the English team for a single T20 match against India. Roy was chosen for England's 2016 T20 World Cup team but he struggled in the team's loss to the West Indies in the tournament's opening match.

After a slow start to the competition Jason Roy came to bat in the semi-finals against New Zealand on a Feroz Shah Kotla wicket smashing a quickfire 78 to enable England to advance to the final match against the West Indies. Roy though was out for a duck in the championship game and England went on to lose against the West Indies.
