Chahar was acquired by the Rising Pune Super Giants in 2016 as a result of his outstanding results on the domestic circuit. In his first two IPL seasons Chahar appeared in a total of five games and took one wicket. Chahar was signed by the Chennai Super Kings for INR 80 lakh.

In the opening match in Harare against Zimbabwe he posted his best ODI stats of 3/27. He added a few more in the last ODI which India won 3-0 to win the series.

Deepak Chahar: T20I Career

Chahar was selected for the series against England's Twenty20 International (T20I) team in May 2018. Jason Roy was ejected in his first game against England. Deepak was subsequently chosen for the three-match T20I series against Bangladesh where he played a significant part in Bangladesh's series victory in the decisive game. His six wickets for seven runs from 3.2 overs gave him the best T20I bowling stats.

In February 2022 while India was playing the West Indies in T20Is Chahar had a quadriceps injury. During the Asia Cup 2022 in the UAE he made his comeback in the shortest format but he only participated in one match against Afghanistan.

Chahar and Arshdeep Singh shared the new-ball duties for the South Africa series in Jasprit Bumrah's absence.
