English cricketer Benjamin Andrew Stokes OBE is the leader of the England Test squad and competes for the England Twenty20 International (T20I) team. He plays for Durham in domestic cricket and has participated in several Twenty20 competitions notably the Indian Premier League where he has played for Rising Pune Supergiant and Rajasthan Royals.

Stokes was a child immigrant to England. He played for England's ODI side from 2011 till his retirement from the format in July 2022. He made his T20I debut in 2011 and his Test debut in 2013. He was a member of the England team that won the 2019 Cricket World Cup. He led the team in runs scored in the final innings and was named Man of the Match after batting in the tied Super Over. 

He received the ICC Award for Best Men's Cricketer and the BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2019 and he was named the Wisden Leading Cricketer in the World in 2019 and 2020. In April 2022 he was named the Test squad captain for England. He scored the game-winning goal in the 2022 T20 World Cup final as a member of the England side.

After his father was named the head coach of Workington Town rugby league club at the age of 12 Stokes relocated to England. In 2009 Stokes played his first one-day match for Durham at the Oval. In that same year he played in two youth tests against Bangladesh U-19. For the 2019 Under-19 World Cup Stokes was chosen. Against Marylebone Cricket Club he made his first-class debut. 

He played for Durham against Essex in the Championship for the first time that year. Against Nottinghamshire he hit his first first-class century. Ben Stokes joined the Melbourne Renegades of the Australian Big Bash League in January 2015.

Stokes was signed for Rs 14.5 crore by the Rising Pune Supergiants for the 2017 season. He struck 103 without being knocked out against the Gujarat Lions to get his first T20 century. Ben Stokes who was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for Rs 12.5 crore was the player who cost the most during the 2018 IPL auction.

In 2011 Stokes played against Ireland in his first ODI. Indian opponents made up his following ODI series. Due to an injury he sustained during the series he was only selected as a batter and was unable to bowl. Due to an injury poor performance and other conduct issues Stokes did not participate in a single game for the England cricket team in 2012. In the opening ODI of the 2014 series against the West Indies Stokes was once again selected for the ODI team.

Stokes was a member of the team for the series against India later that year. After the first two games he was benched but returned for the series' penultimate game where he took three wickets and scored 33 runs. In the 2015 ODI series against New Zealand he displayed improved bat and ball control. With three wickets for 52 runs he contributed to his team's victory in the series finale.

The following ODI series that Stokes participated in was against South Africa and he scored fifty-plus runs in both of those matches. In the ODI series against the Pakistani cricket squad England maintained its strong batting form. In the series against India in 2016–2017 Stokes hit two fifties.

Ben Stokes was selected for the Team of the Tournament as a result of his outstanding performance at the 2017 Champions Trophy. He was included in the ICC's 2017 and 2018 World ODI XI for his performances. Ben Stokes was chosen to play for England at the 2019 World Cup in April 2019.

Particularly during the championship game Stokes was essential to England's success. With his 84 not out Stokes helped tie the game. He claimed that his decision to leave ODI cricket early was due to his inability to play in all three formats and his desire to concentrate more on T20I and Test cricket. Ben Stoke’s Test Career

In the second Test of the 2013–14 Ashes series against Australia Stokes played in his first Test match. He scored 120 off 195 balls in England's second innings of the third Test of the series to get his first Test century. Stokes displayed a terrific all-around performance in the series hitting 279 runs and collecting 15 wickets even though England was thoroughly defeated. The Indian national cricket team was Stokes' next opponent in a significant Test series in 2014. He was left out of the team for the remainder of the series due to his poor batting in the first two Test matches.

Stokes has pulled aside for a tour of the West Indies. Stokes' performance in the competition fell far short of what was anticipated of him. Stokes had his finest Test performance of his career scoring 258 runs off 167 balls in the second game of the series. Additionally it was the second-fastest double-century in Test cricket history. Stokes played four games in a road series against India. He scored several fifty-plus runs against India and claimed a total of five wickets. Stokes had four wickets and two scores of at least 60 in the Ashes series that followed against Australia.

Stokes played five Twenty20 Internationals against India in 2021 scoring 84 runs throughout three innings while only taking three wickets. He played three matches scored 33 runs and took one wicket in his farewell series against Australia in October 2022.

England captain Ben Stokes claimed that the incident in which he was involved in 2017 had an impact on his family. Stokes is accused of knocking down an unconscious person outside a Bristol nightclub almost five years ago.
