Biography

Indian actor Barun Sobti is well recognized for his prominent roles in Hindi television shows, films, and web series. For his portrayal of Nikhil Nair in Asur, he received numerous honours, including the Best Supporting Actor trophy at the 25th Asian Television Awards. Along with Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2017), Halahal (2020), and 200 Halla Ho (2021), he also contributed to critically acclaimed flicks.

He debuted in a negative role in Dill Mill Gayye after beginning his acting career in 2009 with the Star Plus program Shraddha. Later, he contributed to the 2010 film Baat Hamari Pakki Hai for Sony Entertainment Television. By portraying Arnav Singh Raizada in Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon in 2011, Sobti became well-known. With the 2014 love comedy Main Aur Mr. Right, he made his film debut. He has acted in the ALT Balaji series The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family (2018), the Disney+ Hotstar serial Tanhaiyan (2017), and the criminal drama series Asur. He also provided the narration for Durjoy Datta's The Last Boy to Fall in Love for Audible.

Barun Sobti studied at St. Mark's School in New Delhi. He afterward enrolled at the University of Delhi. Barun is fluent in English, Hindi, and Punjabi. He began working to support his family when he was just 17 years old. He spent seven years as an operations manager at Jindal Telecom in New Delhi.

Childhood 

Barun Sobti’s childhood was filled with fun and mischief. As a child he was naughty and his school’s Vice Principal often called his mother for his doings.

His mother is a homemaker and his father’s name is Raj Sobti. Barun also has one elder sister named Richa Arora.He and his wife gave birth to a beautiful baby daughter in 2019 and named her Sifat.

Wife

On December 12, 2010, Barun Sobti married his high school girlfriend, Pashmeen Manchanda, in a private ceremony in a Gurudwara. They had their daughter, Sifat, in June 2019.  Meer, the couple's newborn son, was born in April 25, 2023.

Struggle

Initially, Barun’s film Tu Hai Mera did not do well at the box office and he knew that the struggle was going to go on. In the context of TV actor’s shift from TV to films, he also feels that television actors must not be disregarded because of their background. Barun also felt like giving up the struggle of doing good work but his wife supported him throughout and did not let him give up.

Career

In 2009, Sobti made his lead acting debut in Shraddha on Star Plus as Swayam Khurana. Later, he played Dr. Raj, a drug-addicted medical intern, in a negative guest appearance on the popular medical drama Dill Mill Gayye.Sobti played the reckless, lavish, and spoilt Shravan Jaiswal in the Sony TV series Baat Hamari Pakki Hai from 2010 to 2011.

As the business tycoon Arnav Singh Raizada on Star Plus's Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon? Sobti gained notoriety in 2011. One of the most watched programs at the time was it. On November 30, 2012, the final episode of the season aired. In the third episode of the Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon series, released in 2017, he played Advay Singh Raizada, also known as Dev Kashyap. Then he played Haider Ali Khan in the Hotstar original romantic drama series Tanhaiyan.  The reception for the show was unimpressive. In 2018, he co-starred with Kay Kay Menon as Samar Ranaut in ALTBalaji's The Great Indian Dysfunctional Family. Both audiences and critics gave it almost unanimously favorable reviews. He played Nikhil Nair in the Voot original mystery criminal thriller series Asur in 2020. The setting for the episode is a contemporary serial killer with ties to religion. In 2014, Sobti made his acting debut in the romantic comedy Main Aur Mr. Right, costarring Shenaz Treasury. At the 2012 launch of Main Aur Mr. Right, Sobti was joined by Varun Khandelwal, Danny Saru, Shenaz Treasury, and Kavi Shastri. He starred alongside Kritika Kamra in the 2015 short film Dry Dreams, which was about water conservation. Tu Hai Mera Sunday (2016), directed by Milind Dhaimade, was Sobti's second theatrical release.

Kohrra is the upcoming Netflix web series featuring Barun Sobti in the character of Garundi. The story revolves around an NRI who was killed in the country of Punjab just before his marriage ceremony. As the probe goes on, a whole world of lies, secrets, and the problems of broken families come to light. The Web series will be released by Barun Sobti.

Tanhaiyan

Tanhaiyan is a romance-streaming television show created by Hotstar. Barun Sobti and Surbhi Jyoti play the leading parts. The two characters Meera and Haider are the focus of the programme. They first met during the wedding of their friends Avantika and Sid. Meera is lively and upbeat, whereas Haider is a carefree Casanova. Meera feels alone after learning that her parents perished in a vehicle accident, while Haider blames himself for his friend Raza's death, which was reportedly motivated by a failed romantic relationship. Both conceal it under their new personas.

Asur

Asur is a Hindi-language crime thriller series produced in India. Tanveer Bookwala produced the first season, which aired on Voot, while Bombay Fables, Sejal Shah, Bhavesh Mandalia, and Gaurav Shukla produced the second, which aired on JioCinema. The story follows a team of forensic professionals tasked with apprehending a serial killer who believes he is a reincarnation of the asura Kali. Along with Anupriya Goenka, Ridhi Dogra, and Amey Wagh, Arshad Warsi and Barun Sobti star. Sharib Hashmi played the lead in the first season, and Meiyang Chang and Abhishek Chauhan joined the cast in the second season.

Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon?  is an Indian Hindi-language romantic drama television series that aired on Star Plus from June 6, 2011, to November 30, 2012. Gul Khan's 4 Lions Films produced the film, which starred Barun Sobti and Sanaya Irani. The plot centers around a Delhi-based business tycoon, Arnav Singh Raizada (ASR), and a middle-class girl from Lucknow, Khushi Kumari Gupta.

Baat Hamari Pakki Hai

Baat Hamari Pakki Hai is an Indian television drama series that debuted on Sony Entertainment Television on May 31, 2010, and ended on February 25, 2011. Sanchi, an orphan, lives with her maternal uncle, Indar Sharma (a ghar jamai), and Indar's wife, Usha Sharma, as well as her younger cousins Shreya, Nani, and Nanu in Baat Hamaari Pakki Hai. Sanchi has difficulty finding a life partner and is repeatedly rejected, and Sanchi's marriage becomes the primary priority in Usha's life.

Controversy

When Barun Sobti was cast in the third season of Iss Pyaar Ko Kya Naam Doon, fans mocked the producers and Barun Sobti for excluding Sanaya Irani. According to media sources, things were not going well between Sanaya Irani and Barun Sobti, therefore she was replaced by Shivani Tomar. But it was Barun Sobti who straightened things up, saying that he was an anti-hero in the third part, which has nothing to do with Sanaya Irani, and that they are closest friends.

Barun quit Iss Pyaar Ko kya Naam Doon which is a popular tv serial without a known reason and the audience was not ready to see anyone else playing Barun’s role. The production team, therefore, could not replace him and they ended the show with the last episode shot with him.
