Ayesha had never let her inability to speak Hindi fluently hold her back. She is a go-getter who has appeared on the big screen since she was four years old. Her consistency caught the attention of the producers of 'Socha Na Tha ' who approached her in 2004 to play the lead role opposite Dharmendra's nephew Abhay Deol which she accepted.

As the release of 'Socha Na Tha' was delayed she signed up for another film 'Tarzaan The Wonder Car ' which proved to be her Bollywood debut. Ayesha quickly made her mark in Bollywood with 'Tarzaan The Wonder Car ' not only being noticed but also receiving an award for Best Filmfare Debut.

Following that her films performed poorly at the box office despite her popularity among adolescent audiences in India and abroad particularly with her performances in 'Dil Maange More' and 'Shaadi No. 1'. She also appeared in the 2006 Telegu film 'Robbery ' which was dubbed into Hindi and released as 'Super'.

Then there was Dor in which she played the role without glamour - a film that brought her a lot of praise and much-needed recognition. She has shown here that she can play both good and glamorous roles as well as more ordinary next-door type girl roles with ease.

Rao co-starred in the 2011 drama Paathshaala with Shahid Kapoor. The film received mixed reviews but was a commercial success. Critics praised Anjali Mathur's performance as a nutritionist.
