&TV aired the Indian drama television series Waaris, based on the Bacha posh custom, from May 16 until December 1, 2016. Along with Ankita Bahuguna, Anand Suryavanshi, Kaivalya Chheda, and Jaswir Kaur playing recurrent parts, it features Arti Singh, Farnaz Shetty, and Neel Motwani as the key characters. The story begins with Deena warning Amba that she will kill her unborn child if she has a third daughter. Due to the gender gap, Amba, who regrettably gives birth to a daughter, pretends the child is a son and raises him as a boy, taking on the role of protective mother for the child.

7 years pass by and since Amba doesn't want Jagan to become the village chief, she has chosen Manpreet to serve as Mannu in order to preserve Charan's position. Simmi and Gunjan are examples of feminine things Manpreet frequently favours. When Simmi discovers the truth, she stands by Amba. Harjeet neglects Raj, a crippled man who Manpreet befriends. Despite being adversaries, the Bajwas and Pawanias cooperate to restore peace to the village. Simmi is carrying Raman's foetus. Harjeet shoots Simmi, while Mohini shoots Raman covertly. The Bajwas believe that Manpreet shot Raman. Raj and she no longer have a friendship, and he and Amrit depart the Bajwa household.

10 years later, when Raj returns, he falls for Manpreet without realising she is Mannu. Mohini and Harjeet got married. Raj discovers Manpreet's truth, and they get hitched. She enters the Bajwa home despite his revelation that it was a plot to avenge Raman's death. Simmi is Amba's captive, alive and suffering from mental instability. Rohan locates her. Simmi knows that Mohini killed Raman, thus she is terrified. Raj acknowledges his deep affection for Manpreet. When Mohini is revealed to have slain Raman, she is taken into custody. Simmi regains her memory after being covertly married off to Rohan. Raj aids Manpreet in installing Amba as the new Pawanias leader. Simran-Rohan and the two get remarried.

6 years later, Payal and Rakshit are two of Raj and Manpreet's kids. Mahima and Aarav are children of Simmi and Rohan. They learn from Manpreet that there is no distinction between men and women, bringing the show to an end.
