The setting for the story is Gujarat's Bhuj. A nice and gifted young woman named Gopika lives with her uncle and aunt. She was an orphan who was reared by her uncle, but Ramila, her aunt, never got along with her. She was forced to perform all household duties and was treated like a mere servant. Aashi, the cunning daughter of Ramila, desires to wed Saksham Modi in order to benefit from his fortune. Mithila, Saksham's mother, is looking for a suitable wife for her son who will be able to adequately care for her husband and family. Mithila has held a jewellery competition to select eligible brides. Gopika's sketches are deceitfully taken away by Aashi and Ramila, who then register them in their name.
