Sarfarosh is a Hindi movie about a young medical student who abandons his studies to join the Indian Police Service in order to hunt down terrorists after his sibling is slain and his father is seriously injured by terrorists.

John Matthew Matthan is the director and producer of the Indian movie Sarfarosh. The main Sarfarosh casts include Naseeruddin Shah, Aamir Khan, Sonali Bendre, Makrand Deshpande, Mukesh Rishi, Smita Jaykar, Shri Vallabh Vyas, Govind Namdeo, and Pradeep Rawat. Khan, Shah, and Rishi in particular got an appreciation for their performances in the film. The story, music, and technical aspects of it were also lauded.

Sarfarosh was released in the year 1999 on the 30th of April. The running time of the  movie is as long as 2 hours and 54 minutes. Before the Kargil conflict, when there were already significant tensions between India and Pakistan, the movie was released. The movie did well both critically and financially when it was first released. 

The plot of the movie centers around an unflappable policeman from the Mumbai Crime Branch Ajay Rathod. His elder brother's murder by terrorists many years ago prompted him to give up his medical studies and join the Indian Police Service. Gulfam Hassan, a Pakistan-based ghazal singer, has his undying admiration. They first meet at one of Hassan's concerts and end up becoming close friends. Ajay's inquiry into the cross-border terrorism funded by Pakistan takes him to Rajasthan, where he learns a disturbing truth about a person dear to him.
