The 2016 Indian love drama film Sanam Teri Kasam was produced by Deepak Mukut and directed by Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru. In the lead parts are Mawra Hocane and Harshvardhan Rane. The movie is an updated version of Eric Segal's novel Love Story. When Saraswati's father kicks her out of the house in the movie, Inder sticks by her despite all difficulties, and this strengthens their bond. However, fate has other ideas and will separate them. It stars Harshvardhan Rane, Mawra Hocane, Manish Choudhary, Pyumori Mehta, Rushad Rana, and Vijay Raaz in important roles.

After winning a case, a sizable assembly of people and the media applaud Inder Lal Parihaar. A flashback follows as he later buys a bottle of champagne and arrives home to face a tree.

Young Telugu librarian Saraswati "Saru" Parthasaarthy is exceedingly traditional, but many suitors turn her down because they think she's "unattractive" and "old-fashioned." Her younger sister Kaveri's fiancé gives her a month to be married to him before moving on. But according to her stern father Jayram Parthasarthy, she cannot get married until Saru does. Kaveri insults her and makes elopement threats out of rage. Kaveri is begged by Saru not to run off and injure Jayram, and she makes Kaveri a promise that she will soon find a husband.

Inder, a charming ex-convict who was then involved with well-known fashion stylist Ruby Malhotra, resides in the same building. As he considers them embarrassing, Jayram sees them as a detrimental influence on society. But after a few days, they part ways. When Saru's parents are away, she meets Inder covertly and asks Inder for help getting Ruby to set up a makeover session for her. She tries to win over IIT-educated Abhimanyu Shastry, her office crush. A drunken Ruby interrupts their chat and accuses Inder of cheating on her. Furious, she insults Saru and throws her wine bottle at her before fleeing, but Inder protects her and suffers serious injuries.

Saru assists Inder in getting into bed as the watchman walks toward Inder's apartment and, mistaking them for being in an intimate setting, alerts all the society's seniors. Saru reluctantly assists Inder in tending to his wounds while he is unaware. Early from his journey, Jayram returns. He and the elders discover Saru and Inder on his bed and are utterly unaware of the circumstances, while Jayram rejects Saru. Saru reveals to her mother Arundhati what actually transpired that evening, but she begs her to keep the information from Jayram since he has now approved of Kaveri's wedding.

Inder assists her in finding housing and arranges for Mushtaqeen, a local hairstylist, to give her a makeover. She catches Abhimanyu's attention with her fresh look. In the meantime, Inder develops feelings for her but remains silent when Abhimanyu pops the question to her because he wants her to be happy. On the day of the wedding, however, Abhimanyu rejects her because he does not want a daughter-in-law who has been rejected by his father. Saru retreats to her honeymoon suite after experiencing heartbreak. Saru and Inder spend the night together after that. Inder sees Saru hugging Abhimanyu the following morning and departs devastated. Inder falls into a deep despair and cuts off all communication with Saru.

He seeks Saru down and finds her at a Buddhist monastery where he confesses his love to her after learning from Abhimanyu that Saru had genuinely refused to give him another chance. Inder finds Saru unconscious and rushes her to the hospital, where he learns she has meningioma and just a few days to live. He aggressively enters the home of Saru's parents and orders them to cease portraying their daughter as being dead. He is taken into custody the following day on charges brought by Jayram. After being released from the hospital, Saru visits the library where she finds the hidden notes Inder left for her on the check-out slips, confirming his love for her from the beginning.

Following their union, Saru proposes to Inder. That evening, Saru informs him that she wants to be buried beside a lovely blossoming tree when she passes away. Inder approaches Jayram and informs him that he is engaged to Saru and will sacrifice his life for her. Saru's parents show up and consent to their marriage on the day of their wedding. After the wedding, Saru passes out and is taken to the hospital. When her parents find out about her illness, Jayram is devastated and remorseful. Inder requests his estranged father, Rajinder Lal Parihar, to buy the ground beneath the tree for Saru's burial on his behalf.

Inder is devastated after Saru passes away while being held by her. Rajinder is found by Inder at the hospital, and they make up. Inder stands by the tree that marks Saru's grave as a successful lawyer today. She must be pleased to see him prosperous and sober, he claims. He admits missing her and declares his commitment to pure love that will last forever.
