In 2016, Rambala and Sri Thenandal Films released the comedy-horror film Dhilluku Dhuddu (literally, "Money for Guts"). In addition to Saurabh Shukla playing a crucial role, the movie also stars Santhanam and Anchal Singh in the key roles. Dhilluku Dhuddu, a film with music by S. Thaman, started production in November 2015 and was released on July 7, 2016, to favourable reviews and a profitable box office.  Later, in 2017, the movie was released as Raj Mahal 3 in Hindi. In 2018, the movie was dubbed in Telugu as Dammunte Sommera.  The movie was recreated in Kannada in 2019 and now has Ganesh as the lead.

The narrative of a rapacious woman who desired to wed the King opens the movie. They were unable to live together for a very long period after getting married. She leaves to move in with her ex-boyfriend, with whom she gets pregnant and has a son. Until the king learns about the boy one day, the woman cares for him in secret. The boy is thrown into flames by the King out of rage. In her anguish, the mother hangs herself in front of the house, offering her soul as a sacrifice to Satan. The King is griefsyriken after hearing this, and he collapses from his fort before passing away.

Later, the nearby residents experienced paranormal activity and died at the hands of the ghost. A Buddhist monk receives word of this and offers to visit Sivankondamalai. The Buddhist monk begins to meditate there. As soon as he opens his eyes, he is in a bungalow where he sees a ghost that threatens to kill him. However, the monk manages to capture the ghosts in a magical box before passing out from a concussion. His assistants inform the bungalow's owner that it is possessed.

The action then turns to contemporary Chennai, where Kajal (Shanaya) is throwing a reunion party for her old school pals. Then she talks him how Kumar (Santhanam), a classmate, got expelled from school as a result of Kajal. In the flashback, Kajal offers Kumar a card on Valentine's Day, and he tenderly returns it to her. A teacher witnesses this behaviour, and Kumar is fired as a result. When the plot jumps to the present, Saurabh Shukla, the financier and father of Kajal, wins the truck that belongs to Kumar's uncle Mohan (Karunas), who hasn't paid the truck's debt.

Kajal catches Kumar and passes him over to the police without realising that he is her childhood crush while Mohan and Kumar smash into the financier's house out of rage (not realising that it is Kajal's residence). The following day, while standing in front of the police station, Kumar's father (Anandaraj) calls Kajal's father and threatens to have the case against Kumar withdrawn. Later, when Kajal obtains Kumar's address, she discovers that Kumar is an old friend. In parallel, Kumar and Mohan intend to abduct Kajal in order to discipline her. As a result, they capture her, and after kissing Kumar to unveil herself, they both fall in love.

Kajal is present when Kumar attends a wedding, and as they become intimate, T.M. Karthik, the husband of Kajal's sister, sees it and believes Kumar to be the grandchild of the Kapoor family. When Kajal's father questions Kumar about whether or not his family supports their union, Kumar brings his family over, and Kajal's father learns that they are not related to the Kapoors. Kajal's father attempts to marry her off to another guy, but Kumar foils his plans. Having lost, Kajal's father employs the obnoxious Sketch Mani (Rajendran) to murder Kumar. In order to murder Kumar and his family and then blame it on the ghost, Mani gets Kajal's father to invite Kumar and his family to the haunted house in Sivankodamalai under the pretence of a wedding.

While praying to Lord Muruga before they depart, Kumar's mother unintentionally drops the Vel in the bag and carries it with them. But nobody is aware of the house's spectral presence. As servants, Mani and his friends enter the home. The house still has the mysterious box with the spirit inside it.

Later, Mani and his friends start to frighten Kajal by bringing up the idea of ghosts. Kumar is scared by Mani and his sidekicks, but Kumar realises it's all a drama. As a result, Kumar tells his family about it and instructs them to strike anyone who appears as a ghost. The monk understands that the ghost inside the box will be released when the moonlight hits the box.

The monk sends a follower to retrieve that box, but Mohan and Kumar's father mistake him for an intruder and knock him unconscious. The box eventually receives a touch from the moonlight, releasing the ghost inside. Kumar finds out that Mani and his henchmen are the ones frightening them. When the genuine ghost begins to haunt the house, Kumar encounters it. The monk then shows up, draws one spirit into the box, and another inhabits Kajal's body out of wrath. The monk hears a cry calling out for Kumar as he approaches the region where Kajal's soul is imprisoned. To control the ghost, the monk sends Kumar inside the realm, but he gets stuck there.Thankfully, Kumar's mother takes the Vel and hands it to him. As Kumar develops his spiritual strength, he uses the Vel to slay the ghost.

Kajal and Kumar are married and start living happily after a few months. The ghostly Mani reappears and declares, "This is not the end. The beginning is here.
