The 2018 Hindi-language action crime movie Raid is based on the actual 1980s Sardar Inder Singh income tax raid that was carried out by Income Tax Department officers. The three days and two nights that the raid lasted set it apart from other raids because it was the longest raid in Indian history. T-Series and Panorama Studios created it under the direction of Raj Kumar Gupta. Amit Sial, Gayathri Iyer, and Sheeba Chaddha play supporting parts in Raid alongside lead actors Ajay Devgn, Saurabh Shukla, and Ileana D'Cruz. It was made available on March 16, 2018 It has an IMDb rating of 7.4 out of 10.
The main character of the movie is Amay Patnaik, an LRS officer who has recently been posted to Lucknow to serve as the Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax. He and his wife Malini live happily there. One day, Rameshwar Singh, the don of Sitagarh, who had long since avoided paying income tax, is shown to have been hoarding black money in the form of an anonymous tip. After careful planning, Amay and his group finally go for Sitagarh. Rameshwar's extremely hostile family opposes him and his squad, but he stands by his principles and integrity. In an attempt to locate the hidden cash, he and his colleagues thoroughly investigate the entire residence without success.
After a few hours of looking, when it appears that there is no hope left, he receives an anonymous letter and a map showing where the money is hidden in the house. To locate valuables worth crores, Amay and his colleagues tear down the walls, ceilings, stairways, and old storerooms. Rameshwar, the MP, prods Amay into letting him leave the house because he can't accept defeat.
The Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, who he meets later, declines to offer any assistance because the Income Tax department is under the Central Government's supervision and the raid is legitimate. The Central Finance Minister calls Amay after being encouraged to do so, but she is swiftly ignored. Rameshwar, a persistent individual, approaches numerous MPs, legislators, senior bureaucrats, even the Prime Minister, but to no avail. Then, in an attempt to get the Prime Minister to meet with him, he gathers his political allies and threatens to overthrow the state cabinet. The PM and Rameshwar meet while the raid goes on for the third night running.
Amay promises to comply if the PM sends a signed order instructing him and his team to stop the raid through fax, thus rejecting the request. The PM phones Amay and requests that he look into alternative legal options. The PM is aware that if a written order is given to the IRS Officer to stop the raid, it may end up in the media and damage the reputation of the government. Rameshwar is sent away after she declines to assist. After exhausting all of his political alternatives, Rameshwar becomes frustrated and attempts to attack Amay's wife Malini, who just manages to escape. Amay is incensed upon hearing this, but he chooses to restrain himself.
Finally, at noon on the fourth day, Rameshwar dispatches his goons to assassinate Amay and his crew. A lengthy struggle unfolds, but the PM's special police unit intervenes just in time to save Amay from defeat. Before being brought away in handcuffs, Rameshwar is taken into custody and queries Amay regarding the identity of his informant. Amay declines to make that information public. The youngest daughter-in-law of Rameshwar was discovered to be the informant; she and her lover desired retaliation against Rameshwar for requiring her to wed his infertile son as part of a diplomatic pact. While Amay is being relocated to a different place in the hopes of having a better future, Rameshwar is shown in prison wondering who the informant is.
