In Pudhacha Pual the protagonist of the tale is Kalyani, a little country girl who was abandoned (Jui Gadkari). She undertakes all the family chores, but her cousin Rupali (Sharmila Rajaram Shinde) and aunt Kanchanmala (Supriya Pathare) can't stand her and beat her every day. She is uneducated, and they forbid her from attending school. 

In order to marry Rupali with Soham, who is already having an affair with another girl, Rajalaxmi (also known as Akkasaheb) Sardeshmukh and his son Soham (Astad Kale) visit their home one day. Contrary to her son's wishes, she chooses to make Kalyani her daughter-in-law instead of Rupali since she likes her more.
