A professional climber, like Tensing Norgay and Sir Edmund Hillary, who were the first to reach the top of Mount Everest in 1953, can be implied by the term "mountaineer." 

However, you can also use this term to describe a less serious hiker who also engages in some mountain hiking and rock climbing. The term "alpinist" is more prevalent in many European nations.

Mountain climbers use a wide range of methods and ideas; unlike most sports, mountaineering lacks universally accepted institutional rules, regulations, and governance. Numerous local alpine clubs provide information and social events to aid mountaineers.

Mountaineers engage in activities such as climbing, hiking, snow trekking, and camping. They may participate in expeditions and mountaineering activities planned by different government ministries, businesses, adventure trip operators, or private mountaineering and trekking groups, etc. They may also climb alone or with other people.

Although most Mountaineers earn less than $10,000 a year, the finest professional climbers can make up to $300,000.
