From 19 April 2004 to 31 May 2007, Star Plus broadcast the Indian TV series Kesar. An adolescent girl named Kesar is the focus of the narrative. In addition to Eijaz Khan, Hiten Tejwani, Yash Tonk, Surekha Sikri, and Nasirr Khan in recurrent parts, Nandini Singh plays the title character.

Typical Punjabi girl Kesar resides in a village with her vast extended family. She receives a marriage proposal from the affluent Maliya family who reside in a large city. Kesar marries Rudra, a Maliyas' son. She makes an effort to adapt to her new family's affluent metropolitan lifestyle. However, she soon discovers herself entangled in a labyrinth of lies. It is discovered that Kesar, an innocent person, was the target of a plot by Rudra and his mom Pam to steal a major fortune. Kesar experiences a lot of turmoil in her life. Abhi, a friend of Rudra's who genuinely cares about her, offers her encouragement. But Abhi passes away tragically and too soon. After having his heart transplanted into Harman's body, Harman starts to feel the same love for Kesar. Muskaan, Rudra's daughter, has been born to Kesar in the interim. Rudra perishes in a bombing. Following a great deal more trouble, Kesar chooses to wed Harman. However, unfavourable conditions separate them.

After experiencing these upheavals, Kesar adopts the name Kavita and a new appearance. She marries Police Chief Arjun Gill and raises his first marriage child Abhimanyu as her own. She still misses her son Krish and her daughter Muskaan. Later, Muskaan, Kesar's daughter, is reunited with her. Before everyone knows it, the identity of Kesar and Kavita is revealed. Kesar is still residing with Muskaan and Arjun. Harman and Krish cohabitate. Although Harman is wed to Nupur, Kesar and he are still close friends.

Nupur develops resentment toward Harman and Kesar's union. Harman was injured when Nupur attempted to kill Kesar, which caused him to go blind. Khwaish, the daughter of Nupur and Harman, is the only one who is aware of this. When Krish and Khushali first meet, they find love. After meeting, Muskaan and Rohan both fall in love. Kesar learns that Rohan's real identity is Ajay and that he has already been married on the night of their engagement. Muskaan and Rohan do not become engaged; Krish and Khushali do. Rohan departs the house, but he makes sure to mention to everyone that he already told Muskaan this information on a CD. Muskaan, however, was unable to watch it. The misunderstanding is resolved later.

Muskaan resolves to reunite with Rohan, but on the night of their engagement, she nearly dies after being strangled. It is Muskaan's wedding planner, Naina, who has murderous intentions. Long-time love rival Rohan does not share Naina's feelings for her. He is taken into custody by the police for murdering his first spouse on Muskaan and Rohan's marriage day. Actually, Rohan's first wife was killed by Naina. In order to prevent Rohan from getting married, she obtains evidence against him and presents it to the police. Rohan is backed by Arjun and Kesar. They force Naina to confess to murdering Rohan's first wife. Then Naina dies by suicide.

Rohan and Muskaan meet up. Muskaan then declines to wed Rohan on the wedding day. Muskaan is the object of Abhimanyu's affection, which he has publicly admitted. Finally, he rapes her. The issue is litigated in court. Harman is informed by Nupur why she's the cause of his blindness in the meantime. Shot and killed is Nupur. Arjun eventually tries to murder Harman one day. Arjun feels envious of Harman's closeness with Kesar, which is the cause. Arjun, however, is informed by Harman that his eyesight has recovered and that he can see. Hearing this astounds Arjun. When Kesar brings the police, they take Arjun into custody. Muskaan and Rohan wed in the interim. Because he believes Muskaan and Abhimanyu are committing adultery, Rohan knocks Muskaan up. Muskaan doesn't accept Rohan's apology because he learns that it is false and that it is not true. Then Harman, Krish, Khushali, and Khwaish move in with Muskaan and Kesar. In Harman's home, they all live peacefully together.
