2017 Indian black comedy titled Jolly LL.B 2 was produced by Fox Star Studios and directed by Subhash Kapoor. The drama, which takes place in Lucknow, centres on a lawyer who battles a vicious and formidable opponent to win justice for the slain victim of a phoney encounter with an untrustworthy police officer. Huma Qureshi, Saurabh Shukla, and Annu Kapoor play the main protagonists, with Akshay Kumar portraying the title role. It also stars Sanjay Mishra, Kumud Mishra, Mir Sarwar and Sayani Gupta, among others in supporting roles.
A Lucknow-based attorney named Jagdishwar "Jolly" Mishra resides with his wife Pushpa and son. Despite having a legal degree, he works as a lowly associate for Mr Rizvi, one of Lucknow's most well-known attorneys, for whom his father had previously worked as an assistant for 30 years. He is street smart and aspires to open his own law firm. Jolly misleads Hina Qasim, a widow, into believing that Mr. Rizvi will handle her lawsuit but the price is 2,00,000 rupees in order to secure funding for his own chamber. When Hina discovers that Jolly had cheated her, she ends her life.
Jolly soon learns that Iqbal Qasim, Hina's husband, was murdered in a staged encounter on August 13, 2015—the day after their wedding—by Inspector Suryaveer Singh, who had falsely identified him as the terrorist Mohammed Iqbal Quadri in official records. In order to make the encounter appear real, Singh allegedly shot and killed another constable named Baldev Singh Bhadauria.
Jolly resolves to oppose Hina's case and files a PIL after feeling guilty. For his legal defence, Singh then employs Pramod Mathur, one of Lucknow's top attorneys. Justice Sunderlal Tripathi tells Jolly to gather some proof before the hearing after criticising Jolly for his errors in filing the PIL and lack of convincing evidence. He then provides a date for the hearing.
With the assistance of a bookie named Guru Ji in Varanasi, Jolly is able to obtain a copy of the FIR and other case-related documents by paying him an amount of 5,00,000 by sacrificing his own chamber. Later, he finds Ram Kumar Bhadauria, the son of the officer who perished in the fictitious encounter. This backfires because Mathur tampers with the witness's narco test video using his influence and resources. Even though Justice Tripathi orders Jolly to undergo disciplinary discipline for allegedly providing false proof, the Chairman of the Discipline Committee—who ends up being Mr Rizvi—gives Jolly four days to refute the accusations since he also feels bad for not fighting the case himself.
While looking through Hina and Iqbal Qasim's wedding album, Jolly and Pushpa come across an unidentified Kashmiri police officer by the name of Fahim Butt. Jolly goes to Kashmir and learns the truth from Fahim, who went to Lucknow to find the terrorist at Iqbal Qasim and Hina's wedding. Fahim's visit was Jolly's opportunity to confirm the truth. Fahim explains that Qasim, who was murdered in the encounter, wasn't even a genuine terrorist and that he already filed a formal complaint against Singh. Fahim is currently suspended and has been detained in a fabricated case. Jolly flees to Lucknow with Fahim.
Jolly threatens to file a PIL against all of V.K Paul's interactions unless the police commissioner tells the truth. Mathur attempts to prevent Fahim from testifying in court by protesting by sitting on the floor and stopping the proceedings. Justice Tripathi is also seated on the ground, unmoved by Mathur's ruse.
Justice Tripathi chooses to continue the proceedings after midnight, disregarding Mathur's request. Following Fahim's comment, Jolly introduces Quadri, who poses as a Brahmin Pandit with Paul's assistance. Justice Tripathi initially hesitates, but Jolly quickly presses Iqbal with inquiries by requesting specifics on the Shastras. Finally, Iqbal acknowledges that he is the terrorist Quadri and that he paid off Singh to free him. Iqbal Qasim is eventually found to be innocent by Justice Tripathi, who also orders the arrest of Quadri. Singh and his accomplices are sentenced to life in prison on accusations of murder, wiping evidence, deceiving the court, and presenting false evidence, and Jolly wins the trial.
Jolly LLB 2 was a critical and commercial hit, with the audience praising the performances of the lead cast. The movie was also praised for its writing and went on to be a box office hit, earning close to INR 200 Crores in the process.
