"Dil Apna Punjabi" tells the story of a family with four generations living under one roof, led by Sardar Hardam Singh, in a bustling village in contemporary Punjab (Dara Singh).

His grandson Kanwal (Harbhajan Mann) is a kindhearted person who prefers to hang around with his pals, a local musical ensemble.

At the home of his relative Faujan (Amar Noorie), Kanwal first meets Ladi, a college classmate, and immediately falls in love. Faujan presents their relationship to their respective families as a planned marriage. When Ladi's family finally gets to see him, they are demoralized by his lackadaisical attitude and unemployed status.

When a talent scout (Gurpreet Ghuggi) overhears him singing, Kanwal makes the decision to establish himself in the UK. He meets Lisa, a TV personality, here (Mahek Chahal). Kanwal's charisma and simplicity draw Lisa, and she soon develops affection for him.

Kanwal must decide between pursuing fame and money with Lisa in the UK or going back to Punjab to be with Ladi, his first love.
