The Arjuna Award is India's second-highest athletic honor, and its full name is Arjuna Awards for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games.


The honor bears Arjuna's name, a character from the ancient Indian Sanskrit epic Mahabharata. He is the epic's main protagonist. After Rama and Parshurama, he is regarded as one of the greatest fighters of ancient India. He has been viewed as a representation of diligence, commitment, and focus in Hinduism.


The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports bestows the Arjuna Award annually.


Tajinder Toor is an Indian shotput player who holds both an Asian record and the Arjuna Award. He won the medal for India in the Asian Games and the Tokyo Olympics in 2021.


The award winners are chosen by a committee established by the Ministry and are recognized for their 'excellent achievement in the field of sports over a period of four years at the world level as well as for having displayed 'qualities of leadership, sportsmanship, and a sense of discipline.' 


A bronze sculpture of Arjuna, a certificate, ceremonial clothing, and a cash prize of 15 lakh ($19,000) are included in the award as of 2020.
