Ajay Devgn, Bipasha Basu, and Nana Patekar play the key characters in Prakash Jha's 2005 Indian Hindi-language crime action thriller Apaharan, which also stars Murali Sharma, Nitin Jadhav, Yashpal Sharma, and Mukesh Tiwari in supporting parts. It tells the tale of a father and son who have a complicated relationship and divergent views against the backdrop of the abduction trade in India's eastern province of Bihar. It has an IMDb rating of 7.4 out of 10.

Ajay, who is in need of money, decides to participate in the profitable kidnapping scam in Bihar, kidnaps a government figure, and then demands a ransom to pay back his debt. Unfortunately, Gaya Singh, an underworld don who operates out of prison, was protecting this government employee. The kidnapping fails when it is revealed that Gaya is involved; Ajay is detained by the police, imprisoned in a jail, and brutally tortured and degraded by Gaya Singh. When no one can identify Ajay, he is released from detention.

Ajay, who is angry and fed up with his life, decides to kidnap a second government employee. This official was on Gaya Singh's list of targets when she was given the go-ahead by corrupt MLA Tabrez Alam. When Gaya learns that Ajay is responsible for the kidnapping, he seeks him out and decides to murder him. A fight breaks out, and Gaya is killed in the process. Then, Ajay succeeds Gaya and is warmly welcomed by Tabrez and his troops. What Ajay is unaware of is that Tabrez is a vicious individual who murdered Usman Alam, the brother of Tabrez, when he turned informant to the police.

Since everyone from a humble Police Constable to the Home Minister receives a portion of the ransom money, Dinkar invites Ajay to team up with him as his fame develops. Ajay declines, but Tabrez is misinformed and believes that Ajay is against him. As even his father has abandoned him, Ajay is now all alone. The police want him dead or alive, assuming he can get away from Usman and Tabrez's grasp first. Megha, the woman he had wanted to marry, no longer cares for him.
