Rajesh Mapuskar had the idea for the film after one of his family members was hospitalised and placed on a ventilator. He began writing the script after noting his family members' reactions, attempting to treat the painful circumstance with playful humour.
When it was finished, he approached numerous producers, who were hesitant and tried to talk him out of making it in Marathi. Priyanka Chopra later agreed to produce it through her production business, Purple Pebble Pictures.
