Veteran Bengali TV actress Sonali Chakraborty, who was a part of one of the most popular Bengali TV Shows ‘Gaatchora’, passed away today morning. Sonali Chakraborty was ill for quite some time and had been admitted to the city hospital a few days back, where she breathed her last. Sonali Chakraborty was 59 at the time of her passing. She passed away after a long battle with liver complications.
Sonali played the role of Jethimaa, Khori’s (Solanki’s) aunt in the popular serial ‘Gaatchora’ which features Gourab Chatterjee and Solanki Roy in the lead roles. Sonali Chakraborty has been a part of numerous movies, telefilms and TV Shows, making her one of the most popular faces in the Bengali television Industry.
Sonali Chakraborty was married to Shankar Chakraborty. The couple has a daughter together who works as an Assistant Director in Mumbai. Both Sonali and Shankar are well-known faces in the Bengali industry. The couple worked in many shows and movies together and have also hosted a few shows as a reel couple.
Sonali Chakraborty was a critically acclaimed actress. Her work in movies like ‘Haar Jeet’ (2002) and ‘Bandhan’ (2004) gained immense praise from both critics and general audiences alike. Sonali played an important role opposite Koel Mallick in Bandhan.
Sonali Chakraborty was admitted to the hospital after she fell critically ill late in August. She was taken care of by her husband and her daughter when she was in the hospital. Sonali passed away early morning on 31st October 2022 in City Hospital, Kolkata. The West Bengal Motion Picture Artists' Forum expressed grief over the passing of such a talented actress who has been a part of the film industry for decades. Even West Bengal’s CM Mamta Banerjee expressed her sorrow over the passing of such a talented actress.
Sonali Chakraborty’s funeral will reportedly be held today at Keoratola Crematorium. Several fans are expected to attend to pay homage to the legacy of one of Bengal’s finest television actresses.
