History of Filmfare Awards

The Filmfare Awards are given yearly to the Hindi-language film industry in India for artistic and technical achievement. The Filmfare ceremony is one of India's most well-known cinema events. The Times Group's Filmfare magazine announced the awards in 1954, the same year as the National Film Prizes.

In 1956, a split voting system was created. The Filmfare Awards are decided upon by the general public and an expert panel under this system, in contrast to the National Film Awards, which are chosen by a committee selected by the Indian Government. Various private organizations have supported the ceremony in the past and according to current regulations. A live ceremony was televised to television viewers for several years in the 1990s, however, it was later stopped for unidentified reasons.

Since 2001, SET has broadcast an edited, taped version of the award show a week or two after it takes place. The ceremony has been broadcasted on Colors since 2018. The Filmfare Awards have frequently been compared to the Academy Awards. Filmfare Honors was the most prestigious and well-known prize in Bollywood.

Categories of Film Fare Awards

Along with the main event, Filmfare also hosts sub-events for other Indian film industries, including Filmfare Awards East for eastern Indian cinema, Filmfare Awards South for south Indian cinema, and Filmfare Awards Marathi for Marathi cinema.

  • Filmfare Awards Bengal

Filmfare Awards Bangla is the Bengali category of The Times Group's annual Filmfare Awards, which recognize artistic and cinematic excellence in Bengali. In a ceremony on March 29, 2007, the first round of prizes for Bengali, Assamese, and Odia films was presented. The Worldwide Media company announced on March 8, 2014, at a press conference held in Kolkata, that the Filmfare Award would be making its debut in Eastern India to recognize the best cinematic artistic ability in the area. On March 29, 2014, at the Science City auditorium in Kolkata, awards in 29 categories would be presented as part of the first session.

  • Filmfare Awards South

The Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada cinema industries all are under the authority of the Filmfare Awards South, which is the South Indian division of the annual Filmfare Awards, which are presented by the Filmfare magazine of The Times Group. Malayalam cinema was included in the prizes in 1967, and Kannada cinema was acknowledged in 1970. A unique set of creative awards are granted to each sector during yearly events that have historically taken place in Hyderabad and Chennai. For being the youngest actors to receive the Best Actor honor, Kamal Haasan and Uday Kiran currently retain the record.

  • Filmfare Marathi Awards

Each year, the experts in India's Marathi cinema industry are recognized for their artistic and technical excellence with the Filmfare Marathi Awards. In the past and according to current regulations, the ceremony had received sponsorship from several private organizations. A live ceremony was televised to television viewers for several years in the 1990s, however, it was later stopped for unidentified reasons. Since the awards' establishment, they haven't always been presented consistently. Currently, the awards event is shown on television in a taped and edited form.

Amazing Facts about the Filmfare Trophy

  • The statuette, known as The Black Lady, shows a woman with her arms up in a dance pose and her fingers intertwined (or "The Lady in Black"). Its original design was created by N.G. Pansare under the guidance of Walter Langhammer, the Times of India's art director.

  • It is typically made of bronze, is 46.5 cm in height, and weighs about 5 kg. The statues were constructed in silver to honor the 25th anniversary of the awards, and in gold to mark the 50th anniversary.

  • The trophy had undergone very little alteration before 2012. But as of 2013, a significant alteration was done to give the trophy a 3-D appearance. For this alteration, there were two justifications stated. First of all, according to the organizers, it was essential to keep up with the numerous technological advancements that have already occurred and that will undoubtedly occur in the ensuing years.
