Eid al-Fitr traditionally begins at sunset on the night of the first sighting of the crescent moon. If the moon is not visible after the 29th day of the previous lunar month, the holiday is observed the next day. Depending on the community, Eid al-Fitr is observed for a single day to three days. On the Day of Eid, it is forbidden to fast, and a special prayer is marked for this occasion. Before saying the Eid prayer, food/cash is donated to the needy and the poor as a required act of charity (Zakat-ul-Fitr).
The gathering prays for Eid in an open space like a field, community hall or masjid. For this Eid prayer, there is no call to prayer, and there are only two prayer units. The number of Takbirs and other prayer components varies depending on the branch of Islam observed. An appeal for God's forgiveness, mercy, peace, and blessings for all living things worldwide comes after the sermon and the Eid prayer. Muslims are also given instructions in the sermon on how to perform Eid rituals like the zakat. Unlike the Friday prayer, which is said first before prayer, the Eid sermon is said after the Eid prayer. The sermon at Eid is optional, according to some imams. Muslims spend time with their family, friends, and acquaintances after prayers or host large gatherings for celebrations in their homes, community centres, or rented venues.
There are two practises, Shia and Sunni. Let's examine them closely.
According to tradition, Sunnis praise God loudly as they approach the Eid prayer: Allāhu Akbar, Allāhu Akbar. Lā ilāha illà l-Lāh wal-Lāhu akbar, Allahu akbar walil-Lāhi l-ḥamd
When they arrive at the Eid location or the Imam starts the Eid rituals, the chanting stops. Before the Takbir is said by the Imam and his followers, the prayer begins with Niyyah for the prayer. Niyyah is an Arabic term that means purpose or intention. It is a fundamental principle of Islam and serves as the foundation for all acts of worship performed by Muslims. A person's niyyah is the motivation and intent behind their actions.
The Takbirat al-Ihram is then performed, which consists of saying Allahu Akbar three times while raising and dropping the hands to the ears, with the exception of the final time when the hands are folded. The Al-Fatihah is then read by the Imam, and then another Surah. Ruku and sujud are recited by the crowd as in other prayers. Thus, the first rak'ah is finished.
For the second rak'ah, the congregation stands and folds their hands. The Imam then recites Surah Fatiha, followed by another Surah. Following that, three Takbirs are called out just before the ruku, each time raising and dropping hands. The congregation utters Allahu Akbar for the fourth time before entering the ruku. The rest of the prayer is said according to tradition. The Eid prayer is now complete. A khutbah takes place after the prayer.
The Niyyat is recited first, followed by five Takbirs. Every Takbir of the first rakat includes the recitation of a unique Dua. The congregation then offers Ruku and Sujud as they would in other prayers after the Imam has finished reciting Sūrat al-Fātiḥah and Surat Al-'A`lá. The same procedures (five Takbeers, Sūrat al-Fātiḥah and Surat Al-'A`lá, Ruku and Sujud) are repeated in the second Rakat. Following the prayer, the khutbah begins.
Muslim greetings for the holiday of Eid include the Arabic phrase Eid Mubarak, which means Blessed Eid. Since it follows a month of fasting, sweet dishes and foods are frequently prepared and consumed during the celebration. In addition to being urged to forgive one another and ask forgiveness, people commonly decorate their homes. It is typically a public holiday in nations with sizeable Muslim populations, with the majority of schools and businesses closed on that day.
The Islamic prophet Muhammad is said to have invented Eid al-Fitr, according to Muslim tradition. These celebrations are said to have started in Medina after Muhammad moved there from Mecca. When the Islamic prophet Muhammad arrived in Medina, Anas, a well-known companion, narrated that he found people celebrating two particular days on which they amused themselves with entertainment and good cheer. Muhammad then remarked that God had predetermined two holidays: Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
