1. Avatar: The Way of Water

Avatar: The Way of Water is the second Avatar film in the Avatar franchise. The release date of Avatar 2 is 16 December 2022. Avatar: The Way of Water is directed by James Cameron and is based on the characters created by the director himself. Being the second Avatar Film, Avatar: The Way of Water, which is set more than ten years after the events of the first movie, relates the tale of the Sully family and the problems that follow them, as well as the lengths they go to keep one another safe and the struggles they face to survive. The movie is one of the most expensive movies of all time, with a budget reported to be close to $400 million to produce this Avatar film. 

2. Avatar 3  

Not much is known about this yet-to-be-titled Avatar film. The film, which is tentatively titled Avatar 3, has been delayed for more than 7 years. The filming of this movie took place simultaneously with Avatar: The Way of Water (Avatar 2), which lasted for three years. The shooting of Avatar 3 started on 25 September 2017 and was completed in December 2020. The release date of Avatar 3 is reported to be 20 December 2024.

3. Avatar 4

Just like Avatar 3, little is known about this Avatar film. The yet-to-be-titled Avatar film is reported to release on 18 December 2026. Like the previous Avatar films, even this film was shot extensively in Wellington, New Zealand. The budget of this Avatar film, Avatar 4, is reported to be around $250 million, which can significantly increase during the post-production of the film. The cast of Avatar 4 will include Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldaña and Stephen Lang in lead roles. Director James Cameron revealed at the D23 Expo that the shooting of this Avatar film began in September 2022.

4. Avatar 5

Avatar 5 is set to be the last of the Avatar films of the franchise. This Avatar sequel will also be directed by James Cameron. The main actors are reported to reprise their roles in this Avatar film for one last time. Like the previous 4 films, the main cast of Avatar 5 will be Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana and Stephen Lang. The release date of Avatar 5 is reported to be 22 December 2028. Although the filming of this final Avatar film has not started yet, the pre-production is in full swing, making the fans excited about arguably the most significant film franchise of all time. However, director James Cameron mentioned in an interview that if Avatar: The Way of Water (Avatar 2) fails to perform at the box office, he will cancel Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 and conclude the Avatar saga with Avatar 3 to prevent any financial loss which has disappointed the fans of this beloved franchise.
