On the fifth day of Navratri, which normally falls in the months of Chaitra (March or April) or Ashwin (September or October), adoration is offered to Maa Skandamata, the fifth manifestation of the goddess Durga. Kartikeya (lord Ganesha’s brother), the son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, is referred to as "Skanda" and "Mata" is his mother. As a result, Maa Skandamata is thought of as the mother of Lord Kartikeya or Skanda, also known as Murugan or Subramanya in various regions of India.

Navratri is a widely celebrated festival in many parts of India. With the essence of garba, aartis and blessings of goddess durga, it is enjoyed and loved by everyone.

Significance

Skandamata-navratriIt is thought that she bestows salvation, strength, wealth, and treasures upon her devotees. Even the illiterate can receive oceans of wisdom from her if they want to worship her. All of her worshippers' wishes are granted by Skandamt, who has the brilliance of the sun. He achieves all the successes and riches of life if he is selflessly committed to her. A devotee's heart is purified via worship to Skandamt. The devotee should have complete control over his senses and mind while performing her worship.

He should release himself from his servitude to the world and devote himself entirely to her worship. Her worship is blessed twice. Her son, Lord Skanda, who is seated on her lap, is instantly worshiped by the devotee. As a result, the devotee is able to experience both Lord Skanda's and Skandmata's grace. The Mother bestows power and wealth upon a devotee if they worship her without self-interest. The worshipers of Skandamt radiate with holy radiance. In the end, her adoration leads to salvation. The Goddess of Fire is the common name for her.

Symbolism

Skandamata has three eyes, four arms, and rides a lion. She is holding her son Skanda in his baby form on her lap with one hand in the frightening Abhayamudra pose. Usually, her other two hands are clutching lotus flowers. She has a fair complexion, and because she is frequently depicted sitting on a lotus, she is sometimes called Padamasani.

Aarti

Skandamata Story

Skandamata refers to the mother of the mythical god since Skanda is another name for Lord Kartikeya. Years of severe prayer to Lord Brahma were offered by Tarkasur, who asked for the blessing of immortality but was denied. However, Tarkasur begged Lord Shiva's son to kill him since he thought Lord Shiva practised austerity and would never wed Maa Parvati. Lord Brahma bestowed upon him the fervent blessing.

Lord Shiva and Maa Parvati (Goddess Sati), on the other hand, were predestined to wed, and as a result, Lord Kartikeya was born, according to Lord Vishnu. Since he destroyed Tarkasur, Maa Parvati has also been referred to as Skandamata.

Skandamata Puja Vidhi

The worship of Skandamata is performed on the fifth night of Navratri with the use of holy puja materials. A clay base in the shape of a shallow pan is used by the devotee. The pan is filled with three layers of mud and Sapta Dhanya/Navadhanya (grain) seeds. The next step is to spray some water on the seeds to ensure they have enough moisture. In the base is a Kalasha (holy water pot) containing Durva grass, Ganga jal, Supari, a few coins, and Akshat (raw rice mixed with turmeric powder). The Kalash is then wrapped in five mango tree leaves, which are subsequently covered by a coconut.

The puja is performed after taking a shower, getting dressed nicely, and rising early. Household cleaning and gangajal sprinkled. Light a diya with desi ghee to signal the start of the puja. Present a bouquet of flowers, paan, elaichi, two laung, and supari. The Durga Chalisa, the Skanda Mata mantra, and the Durga Saptashati route should be recited. Break the fast by serving food.
