Biography

Indian cricketer Nitish Rana currently plays in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Kolkata Knight Riders. He is the captain of the Uttar Pradesh Cricket Team at the moment and an aggressive left-handed batter and potent off-spin bowler. In his early years, he was a batsman and a part-time bowler, but he has now matured into a potent all-around batsman. He took over as Delhi's captain in November 2018, replacing outgoing skipper Gautam Gambhir.

Rana once again top-scored for Delhi with 53 off just 29 balls after his team lost three of their top four batters to single digit scores against Baroda. This helped Delhi reduce Baroda's total of 153.

He helped his team win by five wickets against Jharkhand by hitting an unbeaten sixty off forty-four balls after Delhi was down to 14 for 3 in their chase of 135 runs. The Kolkata Knight Riders purchased him in the January 2018 IPL auction.

Rana was included in the India A team for the 2018–19 Deodhar Trophy in October 2018. He was included in India's squad for the 2018 ACC Emerging Teams Asia Cup in December of that year. He was added to India B's roster for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019.

Family

On December 27, 1996, in Delhi, Nitish Rana was born into the family of Dara Singh Satish Rana. His mother is a homemaker while his father teaches mathematics. 

Education

He finished his education at Vidya Jain School and DAV Centenary School. 2008–2010 saw him play for Vidya Jain school.

Career

IPL

With the Mumbai Indians, Nitish Rana started his IPL career in 2015. He was forced to bide his time for chances to play for the very talented IPL team. On May 11, 2016, the left-handed batsman made his IPL 2016 debut against Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 2017, he had his first season to remember, scoring 333 runs in just 13 innings. In advance of the 2018 auction, the Mumbai Indians released him.

He was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders at the 2018 Indian Premier League auction as a result of his aggressive playing style and strong performance in the 2016–2017 Ranji season. He is a productive part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team who has established his niche in the group. 

His game-winning strikes have been invaluable to the squad, but his lack of performance in the season's closing games has stunted his development.

He has participated in 77 IPL games as of February 2022, amassing 1820 runs at a strike rate of 132.5 and an average of 28.4 runs. In addition, he has amassed 13 half-centuries, 161 fours, and 49 sixes.

Kolkata Knight Riders paid INR8 crore to acquire him following a competitive bidding battle with Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants.

International

On July 23, 2021, Nitish Rana made his debut internationally against Sri Lanka in an ODI match played in Colombo. In the game, all he managed to score was 7 runs off of 14 balls. He played his first Twenty20 match the next week, on July 28, 2021, in Colombo against Sri Lanka.

The powerful batsman has participated in two T20 internationals and one ODI cricket games as of February 2022. With a strike rate of 132.5 and an average of 7.5, he has scored 15 runs in his two Twenty20 International games.
